Local Nature Partnerships across the South West are teaming together to deliver Naturally Healthy Month throughout the whole of May. To keep up to date on activities in your area, follow the hashtag #naturallyhealthy, with big plans particularly across Devon, Dorset and Somerset.
So, what is ‘Naturally Healthy’ May? There is considerable evidence that suggests a little dose of nature, just 5 minutes in fact, can have a significantly positive effect on self-esteem and mental health – not to mention many other physical health benefits. So, during the month of May we will be encouraging you to get outdoors into nature and feel happier and healthier for it.
In Gloucestershire, we have a wide range of organisations who can provide information on activities happening throughout May, including free and easy ways to enjoy the outdoors, facts about the benefits of being in nature, links for further useful information, as well as an opportunity to see more of your local area, make new friendships, spend quality time with family and de-stress and energise before and after (or during!) work.
Activities could include a quick walk through your local green space on your way to work, a wander along the Cotswolds Way with friends, canoeing on the River Wye, making daisy chains in a park, geocaching throughout the county, cycling through the Forest of Dean, volunteering for a wildlife group, gardening at home or for a neighbour, doing sun salutations during outdoor yoga, wild swimming in the Thames at Lechlade, or even simply grabbing a good book and a flask of coffee and sitting under a tree to read and relax.
So make the most of the sunshine this May (or don your wellies if necessary for an adventure in the rain) and give yourself and your loved ones the gift of connecting with nature - we are certain you will feel so much better, healthier and happier for it.
