The GLNP Partnership Gathering on 28th November 2023 started a review of the strategy of Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership. Progress on this strategy review has been slow because spring and summer 2024 has had a big focus on Local Nature Recovery Strategy development - its proved tricky to do both at once!
However, the Local Nature Partnership board has been continuing to discuss the November 2023 workshop input and look ahead to a range of different potential strategy theme discussions that can help develop the goals of our next Local Nature Partnership strategy. This news post shares this thinking so far.
This document summarises the discussions and comments from the GLNP gathering that are most relevant to take forward into further strategy discussions:
From this, I have identified 8 potential topics or themes, for different relevant conversations or groups to discuss, in relation to future Local Nature Partnership strategy.
Potential strategy theme | Who might be the discussion group |
Partnership development | A focus group of different partners? |
Nature Recovery | Nature Recovery Working group |
Planning and Green Infrastructure | Local Authorities Planning and Biodiversity Group |
Climate Resilience | To be discussed, including county climate change coordinators, Gloucestershire Food and Farming Partnership |
GNCF and natural capital investment | GNCF Board; FWAG south west, others |
Nature Engagement and connection | Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, Young Changemakers, others including those who attended partnership gathering |
Green social prescribing | NHS, funded Nature on Prescription projects, Green and Blue social prescribing network? |
Access to Nature | University of Gloucestershire, GWT, National Trust, current Access to Nature cohort, partners who have expressed interest in Access to Nature, Local Authority green spaces teams |
The proposal of the Partnership Development theme is to discuss how to develop the partnership itself - for example, clearer ways to get involved and understand the partnership, easier cross-partnership communication, more inclusive and effective communication in newsletter, website and social media.
A spreadsheet giving more detail on the ideas behind these potential strategy themes, and how they cross-reference with the current Local Nature Partnership strategy is here:
