What is the Local Nature Recovery Strategy?

The Local Nature Recovery Strategy aims to show where creating or maintaining habitat will be most likely to provide the greatest benefit for nature. The strategy should support applications for agri-environment funding, target off-site biodiversity net gain, inform local plans and steer conservation and community projects.

The strategy does not force the owners and managers of the land identified to make any changes, but shows the range of priority options for maintaining and creating habitats, wildlife corridors and species-specific actions.

The strategy is being developed by Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership, who have consulted with National Farmers Union, Countryside Land & Business Association and Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group SouthWest to set up these sessions.

What stage is the draft at?

There is test mapping and draft text for the Gloucestershire Local Nature Recovery Strategy. We are seeking feedback and improvements ahead of formal public consultation.

The current drafts draw on early farmer and landowner discussion sessions in autumn 2023, community engagement events in spring 2024 and expert information from nature conservation organisations, species experts and local & national datasets.

What will happen at the upcoming sessions?

Farmers, landowners, land managers and farm advisors are welcome to our in-person events and online Teams meeting where you can:

  • suggest what needs to be improved to get this right

  • suggest improvements for map and strategy usability

  • You are welcome to stay on for a light sandwich lunch at 1pm.
