The draft Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill was published on December 19th as an attempt to set out how we will maintain environmental standards as we leave the EU and build on the vision of the 25 Year Environment Plan.
As the Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership, we feel this bill does not reflect the promises made by ministers, weakening existing environmental legislation from the European Union combined with a clear lack of strong, independent environmental watchdog that can hold the government to account. There are also substantial risks behind the Government not considering the environmental impact of their spending decisions, plus further concerns that we wish to engage our members on.
Therefore, we seek to raise the profile of our responses by drawing together our collective views to make a powerful submission, urging the government to fix the Bill before it hits Parliament next summer.
We will be hosting a workshop as part of one of our annual partnership meetings on Thursday 14th March 2019.
If you are interested in attending this workshop and are not currently affiliated with the Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership please get in touch with us on jackie@gloucestershirenature.org.uk or complete this form here: https://www.gloucestershirenature.org.uk/join-us and we will ensure you are included on future communications.
